House: Construction Worker: Bangkok

Page history last edited by Wes Janz 1 yr ago

In 2005, Anawat Chirattikalwong photographed a temporary house that a construction worker had built in Bangkok for himself and his family, in the Ban Nong-Ra-Hang area near Sai Mai Street and Lum Lok Ka. The project under construction nearby was a townhouse.

With his independent study project titled "Studying (and suggesting minor improvement to) Self Built House by Construction Workers in Bangkok, Thailand," Chirattikalwong put his architectural knowledge to the test: could he suggest slight improvements to the dwelling's construction, recasting what he had come to know as a trained architect within the sensibilities of another who was trained as a builder, but in this case, had self-built a quick house?  The scenario: the construction worker completes his project and moves on with his family.  Another family finds the dwelling and decides to make it their permanent house.  What "minor improvements" might be made?

Chirattikalwong's report is available here through Google Docs.
